What we do to keep clients safe

Let’s be honest. Being in a room with others, whether for work or play, makes people uneasy. The coronavirus and its uncertainties means we have to take extra precautions to stay safe, because the health of our families is impacted by what we do at work. That’s a concern we take to heart.

Many of our clients are in the health field. In fact, producer/director Ian Walker spent 18 years as an educator and epidemiologist with the Environmental Health Investigations Branch of the state health department. They’re still one of our clients. We’ve also created videos for the Contra Costa Environmental Health Department, Zero Breast Cancer, Fit Kids Foundation, and others. So we understand the importance of health safety, especially during these times.

Here’s what we do to keep our clients safe:

Initial consultation can be in person or online.

Our initial meetings are key to creating a successful video that matches your vision and exceeds your goals. While in person meetings can quickly generate creative ideas, all of our pre-production sessions are available by phone or web meeting.

Space Management

When it’s time to be “in-person” one of the most important elements is space management. This is more than keeping rooms from becoming crowded; it’s also about managing the airflow so that everyone is breathing clean air. We’ve learned a lot since the beginning of the pandemic about aerosols and the importance of keeping rooms ventilated with fans, open doors, and windows.

Reduced crew size

Production sets can get cluttered with people quickly. Even in the best of times, it quickly becomes inefficient and costly. Contrary to what some media companies say, most video productions under $50K can be filmed with a crew of five or less. That’s because there are really four main areas of production: direction, sound, lighting, and coordination. Depending on the complexity of your production, staffing can range from as few as one to as many as five individuals. That saves money and protects health.

Mask it

Masks are the simplest and most effective protection against infection. Whenever our staff is in the same room as our clients, we’re wearing masks (and we wear them around each other, too.)

We like it clean

We know a lot about how to protect everyone’s health while on set. After all, one of our longest running clients is the California Department of Public Health. Keeping surfaces clean, using personal protective equipment, and orchestrating the movement of people during filming are three of the most effective ways to stay safe. When in doubt, wipe it down.

Online draft review

While we often like to sit down with clients for the first viewing of a draft, every client has the option to receive draft versions online for personal viewing. We can meet and discuss via our exclusive online meeting platform. We can even watch the video as we meet. This means people from your office can join remotely, too, helping you maintain your safe distancing guidelines. It often takes longer to reach consensus on artistic matters when working virtually, which is why every project has up to 2 free rounds of revisions, based on your feedback
